Daniel Barry practices in the areas of real estate leasing, acquisitions and dispositions covering all aspects of the development of real property. Mr. Barry has extensive experience in shopping center and retail development throughout the western United States, and has worked on significant financing transactions. In addition, Mr. Barry has worked on a number of significant land use matters in the UNited States, and has served as a consultant to a number of government agencies and the United Nations concerning land use matters in foreign countries.

Prior to joining Stein & Lubin, Mr. Barry practiced with the law firms of Baker & McKenzie, and Steefel, Levitt & Weiss, and was Assistant Land Use Counsel for the Boston Redevelopment Authority.

Mr. Barry graduated summa cum laude from SUNY Buffalo in 1980, with a B.A. in Honors Economics and Political Science, where he was elected Phi Beta Kappa. He received his J.D. from the University of Virginia in 1983, and his Master of Laws degree from the Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley in 1996. Mr. Barry also received the degree of Master of Public Affairs and Urban and Regional Planning from the Woodrow Wilson School, Princeton University, in 1986.

  • Represented national big box retailer in approximately 250 store developments in California.
  • Represented client in sales of regional shopping centers in Alaska and Hawaii.
  • Represented lessor client in approximately 50 leases and ground leases of retail property throughout western United States.
  • Represented San Francisco landowner in obtaining determination from Board of Appeal that property containing 1.2 million square feet of building area was "pre-existing office space" under San Francisco Planning Code.
  • Represented borrower in $132 million loan transaction for construction loan concerning high-rise condominium development in downtown San Francisco.
  • Authored (as primary writer) UNESCO report concerning analysis and legislative recommendations for planning and land regulation in Cook Islands.
  • Authored (as primary writer) of report to City of Wellington (New Zealand) concerning analysis and recommendations for historic preservation policies and regulations.
