Catherine Jackson practices in the area of commercial and civil litigation, with experience in complex unfair business practices issues, commercial and contract disputes, business torts, state and federal regulatory and constitutional issues, healthcare litigation, and energy litigation and regulatory issues.

Ms. Jackson graduated cum laude from UCLA in 1993 with a B.A. in Political Science. She received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1997, where she was Notes Editor of the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics. Before joining Stein & Lubin in November 2006, Ms. Jackson was a Deputy Attorney General in the California Attorney General's Energy Task Force, where she investigated and litigated matters arising from the restructuring of California's energy markets and the 2000-2001 energy crisis. Prior to joining the Attorney General's Office in 2003, Ms. Jackson was a commercial litigation associate at Brobeck, Phleger, & Harrison LLP, where she represented public and private entities in the healthcare, financial services, technology, software, and insurance industries.

  • Represented law firm in a multimillion-dollar contingency fee dispute.
  • Represented The Toronto Dominion Bank in litigation involving a contested acquisition of an options trading firm.
  • Represented the California Department of Water Resources in multibillion-dollar trial and appellate litigation regarding long-term energy contracts and matters relating to the 2001-2000 California energy crisis.
  • Prosecuted antitrust claims challenging the acquisitions of power plants in California.
  • Litigated cases on behalf of the State involving unfair competition and anticompetitive business practices claims, bankruptcy claims, and regulatory disputes relating to the energy crisis and California energy markets.
  • Worked on trial team defending the State's stem cell institute and constitutional officers against constitutional challenges to the institute and its enabling authority.
  • Represented San Diego County Municipal Water Authority in trial and appellate litigation regarding statutory interpretation of and state constitutional and equitable challenges to provisions of a metropolitan water district act and state water code provisions.
  • Represented several health care organizations and providers in litigation relating to managed health care contracts and health care services.
  • Represented Health Net, Inc. in administrative hearings adjudicating the interpretation and application of statutes and regulations relating to client's participation in Los Angeles County's Medi-Cal managed care program.
  • Represented Nike, Inc. in case alleging unfair business practices and civil rights claims relating to appearance of logo on athletic wear.
  • Represented Safeway and other retailers in consumer class actions arising under California unfair business practices and advertising statutes.
  • Represented clients in audits of software systems by an industry watchdog group.
